Our favourite things to do in Hemel Hempstead

Are you thinking of moving to Hemel Hempstead?  Maybe you are new to the area, and looking for something fun to do in your free time? Sometimes we don’t take full advantage of the great activities that are on our doorstep, which is why we want to share with you the variety of exciting and fascinating things you can do in Hemel Hempstead.

Year-round winter sports

No matter what the time of year, you can still enjoy a range of winter sports, thanks to The Snow Centre and Planet Ice.  Home to the largest indoor, real-snow ski slope in the UK, standing at 160m, The Snow Centre is a fun and fantastic place to learn to ski and snowboard.  Beginners can access a range of lessons, whilst pros can enjoy the Freestyle Park.

If you have dreamt of dancing on ice, why not visit one of the weekly disco sessions at Planet Ice? But don’t limit yourself to ice dancing; figure skating and ice hockey training and matches are also available, including Penguin Ice for children aged 18 months to 5 years.

Enjoying the landscape

Do you find yourself wondering what to do at the weekends?  How about spending a Saturday on the Ashridge Tea Electric Bike Ride Tour?  Hosted by Electric Bike Tours, you will enjoy a tour that takes you around Berkhamsted Castle, Hemel Hempstead Old Town, Ashridge Woods, Ashridge House, and the Grand Union Canal.  At only £40, which includes eBike Hire, a cream tea, safety equipment, and a tour guide, we think it’s fantastic value for money.

What better way to spend your weekend than visiting a local vineyard.  Frithsden Vineyard, set in the foothills of the Chilterns, is surrounded by stunning countryside.  They host a variety of events throughout the year, from barbecues to guided tours, and you can also take advantage of their cafe and shop to take home a taste of your visit.

Cultural experiences

Just a short drive away you will find Redbournbury Watermill and Bakery.  Listed in the Domesday survey of 1086 as one of Hertfordshire’s five most valuable sites to rent, the Mill has a long history and has had many owners over the years.  Following a fire in 1987, it has been extensively restored, and is still a working mill, providing the bakery with organic flour for their wide range of breads.  Open mainly on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, it is best to check their website ahead of your visit to see what’s on.

The Life and Soul Academy provides a range of dance, drama, and singing classes for children and young people.  Adults are not forgotten, as adult classes are designed to give you a work-out whilst having fun.  The school believes in increasing confidence whilst improving life skills within a unique setting.  Many of the classes are exclusive to the Academy, and are designed to stimulate, inspire and empower.

We have only touched on the wealth of activities you can enjoy when you live in this vibrant and glorious region of Hemel Hempstead.  Looking to move?  Our team at Squires Estates are here to make it happen.
